Murray Bowen developed the family systems theory, also known as ‘the family systems therapy.

This dynamic concept is heavily based on the idea of family as a multigenerational emotional system (Bowen, 1978; Titelman, 2015), which means that each generation significantly influences those that follow.

Rather than focusing on individual pathology, counselors are concerned with how families, across generations, create patterns of behaving and responding to stress.

Our focus is to change how the world views and perceives counseling and therapy by offering the highest quality of innovative mind-body techniques inclusive of individuals with disabilities to achieve the best quality of life.

Most importantly, to help facilitate change to help achieve a higher quality of life with dignity and independence.

We can provide you with the best care in counseling services for individual, group, family, and marriage counseling, breath work, and mindfulness-based practices to restore health and promote well-being at any stage.

arrow not foundTheory

The family systems theory considers that the family’s functioning influences an individual’s psychological well-being (Chan et al., 2004).

Therefore, the severity of the functional limitations of the child with ASD will impact the functioning of the other family members. Families with a child with ASD report increased stress (Kogan et a1., 2008).

Within this theory, unhealthy stress management is passed through generations and reflects overall family functioning.

Within this theory, Bowen explained what is known as the differentiation of self.
